Experiencing the need to slow down a bit but not stop

More of a personal note today. A great deal of my friends are retired – in various ways but they are not working full time. I was poised to start some consulting/freelance work in post production for only the 2nd time in all of my 4 careers but then – well COVID… I got busy quickly helping out doing some producing and editing but all on a volunteer basis. I had prepared to take this calendar year to not count on working 100% (more like 110% in tech) so I am ok supporting myself unlike many others sadly. I admit during this lock down time, I have read more, gotten back into doing jigsaw puzzles, enjoyed cooking up a storm and taking some classes online. So it has been full to some extent and I have welcomed the leisurely pace compared to working 9-10 hours, coming home for a meal and then working at home in the evenings. Yet even the roles I have looked at online (mostly tech as there are little advertised roles in film and no library jobs at all as cuts are going on), I am not getting the usual feedback – either I don’t hear anything at all or when I do the online interviews, eventually they come back that they are going with the “better fit”, ie. younger. I actually talked with one of the recruiters where they were quite open about fearing my experience as I might be “bored” or that I would be moving at a different pace than others. Instead of welcoming someone who could mentor or do the strategic planning work based on years of projects. Again, the oldest one in the room. #oldestoneintheroom #aginggracefully
